So far, they couldn't find the reason and an exact solution. I don't use any third party search tools like Google Desktop; so the problem is not related to file locking due to search indexing. Is this the same issue? I have not found a way to cure it but get round it by using 'Save As' and adding a suffix (usually just a space and the letter 'a').
