This *should* have worked. Recently, we came around such scenario while restoring a machine running Windows 8. WIN 7 Restore: still working on this one. richard tyczkowski now i understand everything you said, there is one thing you did or didnot say to do, that is after starting Volume Shadow Copy, you do not say to Have you tried creating a new (post Samsung) restore point and then attempting to restore to that say the next day or even an hour or two later? I am getting old :) Wonder what response the local Samsung folk will come up with .... With an image backup, you could 100% restore your system after a problem like this to it's pre-Samsung status with no muss and no fuss.

If I get anything back from Samsung I'll post it here - but won't get oxygen starved waiting.
