Has this lap top been cleaned out with a can of air, because Heat can cause BSOD's even when shutting down. If so remove the USB Mouse prior to shutdown, and see if the bsod's stop. I also got red/grey lines down the screen and had to do a hard-reboot when I un-installed the 5970 drivers recently for some reason. Sleep & Hibernation are common problems.
